Logan brings over a decade of experience and holds a Master’s degree in Plant Science from Missouri State University. His career began with research on disease and pest resistance in pumpkins, where he developed interspecific populations and explored methods to overcome sterility barriers in early-generation hybrids through tissue culture, androgenesis, and double haploid production. He also contributed to grapevine breeding by characterizing and enabling marker-assisted selection for traits that improved fungicide tolerance and enhanced vineyard establishment efficiency. At the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Logan managed greenhouse operations and led breeding efforts for the Sorghum and Biomass Association Panels, focusing on both grain and bioenergy applications. At Benson Hill, Logan led the creation of the Trait Introgression Pipeline, deploying traits like herbicide tolerance to enhance elite breeding lines and accelerate product time-to- market. He championed identity preservation to ensure seed integrity and traceability. As part of the Controlled Environments Leadership Team, he expanded breeding capabilities and played a key role in designing the Crop Accelerator indoor growth facility. Logan also drove automation, optimized workflows, and introduced models to support high-throughput phenotyping, accelerating breeding cycles and increasing genetic gains. Beyond his technical leadership, Logan helped cultivate a culture of innovation and collaboration as co-founder of the employee engagement council, leading initiatives that fostered personal growth, camaraderie, and cross-functional ideation. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, gardening, and participating in competitive giant pumpkin growing.
